Duotones: A series of artists talking
Talk #2: Daniel Tuomey and Eveline Visser
Moderated by Daniël van der Giessen
Hosted by TENT, Coolhaven 32, Rotterdam
Join us next Thursday, June 5, for the continuation of Duotones: A Series of Artists Talking—a new program of artist talks organised by A Tale of A Tub and Studio Art Office/CBK R’dam and hosted by TENT. The series is an attempt to put different generations of Rotterdam-based artists in conversation, and for talk number two we’ve invited Daniel Tuomey and Eveline Visser to draw on their shared connection to on the role of narrative and the staging of stories within their practices, often done through painting, architecture and text.
Unfolding over the next months (with the exception of forthcoming a summer break), each talk will see two artists from different generations paired together, during which they will (casually) present their practice before a third artist will act as moderator for a conversation. More often than not, we encounter each other’s work as a finished product, presented to the public in the form of a thoroughly thought-out outcome. Given this, aside from connecting the different communities of the Rotterdam art scene—such as longtime locals and newcomers who have recently settled in the city—the goal is to also try and enter the working process while it is in development, say, having early conversations in public. Drinks and snacks will be provided and the hope is that the series becomes a social staple for many of us to finally meet.
Biographies
DANIEL TUOMEY (1989) was born in Dublin and currently lives and works in Rotterdam. His longterm research projects centre itchy embodiment and uneasy narration, pointing to critiques of identity and home. Recent solo exhibitions include Ormston House, Limerick (2025), VIDEO, Rotterdam (2024), and Pallas Projects/Studios, Dublin (2023). Tuomey received his MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam (2017). His work has been supported by Mondriaan Fonds, The Arts Council of Ireland and CBK Rotterdam.
EVELINE VISSER’s (1949) work moves between darkness and light, between magic and dystopia—but always with an undercurrent of hope. I create theatrical installations and monumental paintings that extend across walls and ceilings—immersive spaces for visitors to wander through.
Daniël van der Giessen (1998, they/them) is a researcher, host, writer, and performer based in Rotterdam. Their practice focusses on artistic collaboration, facilitation and proximity. Daniël uses conversation, negotiation and recital to explore sites of art production and distribution. They are currently researching the relationship between Contemporary Art’s infrastructure and attitudes, and the neoliberal-fascist dynamic.
